Hello everybody!

Hello everyone!

I am very new to the world of blogs. It is shockingly big. The story behind the birth of this blog is that the mother (me) is studying biomedicine at Karolinska Institutet (KI) in Sweden. This is my 6th semester, and this autumn I will have to choose some courses that I want to take. After meeting way too many scientists during my education and after working at a lab last summer I finally decided that I never ever want to become a scientist. It's just not my thing...

On the other hand, I do like biomedicine. It is a very wide subject, so I have many future occupations to choose from. So, I thought: what should I do?

I finally thought of an occupation that I think would suit me. I have decided to become a biomedical journalist! Journalism has always sounded interesting, but I never wanted to write about Brangelinas 18th baby, Nicole Richie’s new diet “loose the pounds you don’t have”, or which colour Orlando Blooms shirt had yesterday. That is why being a biomedical journalist would be perfect for me.

Anyway, the thing about this blog is that the best journalism-course that I have found in Sweden, requires that you start writing a blog. So, I thought, why not start right now, and get it into my system before it gets serious.

About the word “knappological”, it is my way of translating “knappologiskt" from Swedish to English. Knappologisk is a word that was thought up by one of the most famous authors in Sweden. The, woman-hating, genius, insane idiot August Strindberg. The word describes something that is lacking meaning, and is just overly systematic. My boyfriend taught me the word after he had tried making an old version of Högskoleprovet (a Swedish, ridiculous, version of the SAT's; in which you have to describe the meaning of words that have not been in use since the death of the last Tyrannosaurus Rex), which I will have to go through in order to get in to the journalism course. Högskoleprovet is a good example of something knappological. It is completely meaningless, and people take it waaay too seriously.

Anyway, I hope you will enjoy my blog! It will be about me, my thoughts, and biomedicine.
